Meet Tabitha, the creator of a no-hands, ride-on vibrator!

The award winning Ruby Glow is a new saddle-style ride-on vibrator. It’s non-penetrative and hands-free making it ideal for women who are looking for new ways to orgasm or those seeking an alternative to traditional sex toys. You simply pop it on your chair between your legs and grind your way to orgasmic joy on the vibrating pads. I mean..for the particularly naughty it does bring to mind that you could use this secretly on a bus, on a train…or at your desk. I suppose it just depends how noisy you are!

The Ruby Glow was created by the very lovely Edinburgh based writer and designer Tabitha Rayne. It has won countless awards including the Kinkly Consumer’s Choice award from US B2B publication StorErotica, featured in Good Housekeeping magazine, and has been handled and discussed on This Morning with Phil and Holly where it received comments such as ‘revolutionary’ and ‘fantastic for disabled users,’ from sex and relationships expert Tracey Cox.

We are delighted to have been able to meet lovely Tabitha in person at Eroticon 2018, to have tested the toy ourselves (review coming soon) – and to have a special Brazen discount in case you’d like to purchase yourself one (or gift it to someone in time for Christmas!)

Here’s our little Q&A with Tabitha, where she tells us all about how we can get the very best from our Ruby Glow.

*****

Hi there, I’m Tabitha Rayne, I’ve been writing and publishing erotica for nearly ten years now. I’m also a sex blogger, inventor and artist and have been on a few top 100 lists and won Best Erotica author on the ETO mag awards. I just love writing about sex, thinking about sex, talking about sex! It’s the perfect industry for me 😊

What is Ruby Glow and who is it designed for?

The Ruby Glow is a saddle style sex toy with two vibrating pads for stimulating the clitoris and vaginal/perineal area. It is hands free and non-penetrative and can even be used through clothing. It is for anyone vulva owner who would like a seated sexy encounter or those who can’t use traditional sex toys due to wrist pain or weakness. It is also great for those who don’t like penetration. At the time I was designing it, I felt that there was either phallic toys or clitoral toys, there didn’t seem to be a whole vulva experience. That’s what I wanted to find.

Tell us about the journey that led to the design of the Ruby Glow?

Initially I designed it to alleviate my own sexual tension while writing my saucy stories – things can get quite heated on my laptop at times and I wanted a toy I could pop between my legs and grind on. I couldn’t find what I needed in shops or online so I dreamed up the shape and made it out of clay. When it had hardened, I tried it out and thought, oh yes! I showed a friend of mine who gave invested some money to produce prototypes. I spent a few months making moulds, and producing blue silicon versions with bullet vibrators inserted into them. Lucky for me, being an erotica writer, I know many like minded individuals who were only too happy to help with testing! With their comments, I perfected the design and approached Rocks Off (UK sex toy manufacturer) who also thought the toy was unique and took it on as part of their range.

Why do you think it was needed?

I designed it in the first instance for my own use, I had no idea that other women might find it successful. I was even more excited when I discovered that because it was hands-free, women with weak wrists or those who couldn’t grip traditional sex toys could use it. Indeed, having suffered a bout of arthritis where I couldn’t even pull my own knickers up for months, I really felt there was a need to develop this idea further. A lot of sex toys don’t take into account the fact that it may be difficult for some people to hold the toy so I wanted to explore this.

Talk us through the intricacies of the design/ What does it do?

The Ruby Glow is a small saddle sex toy held in place by your pubic bone which has two vibrating pads to deliver sensation to the clitoris and vaginal area at the same time. Each pad is independently controlled and has ten settings to drive you to solo pleasure heaven! Just pop it on your chair and sit on it.

How did you bring your design to market?

I approached Rocks Off with the design and they thought it was unique and interesting and took it on.

What sort of feedback have you had?

I have had some wonderful feedback – it is such a unique and intriguing design that people really want to try it. I’ve been contacted by women who have been unable to achieve orgasm on other sex toys and found joy with the Ruby Glow – it is hugely moving when that happens and really drives me forward through times when I have any doubts. I read a wonderful review from a trans man who also suffers with ME – who found the Ruby Glow to be perfect for his needs – I was in tears when I read it. Sometimes it really isn’t easy to be an inventor so when you come across stories like that, it validates the effort and time spent and gives you the motivation to keep going.

What about the PR for your product – it’s been massively popular hasn’t it?

The publicity has been amazing – I was absolutely thrilled when the Ruby Glow appeared on This Morning and was declared ‘revolutionary for disabled users’ by TV sex expert Tracey Cox and even won 2nd place in the Good Housekeeping Vibrator Reviews. Philip Schofield and Gordon the Gopher were two of my childhood entertainment icons so to have Philip actually holding and discussing a sex toy I’d invented was one of the most exciting and surreal moments of my life 😀

Do you think women are becoming more empowered when it comes to finding their own pleasure?

I absolutely do think women are becoming more empowered. It is not shameful to admit that you love having orgasms or instructing your partner on how to help you achieve one. It’s all about communication and the more we keep talking about our pleasure needs, wants and desires, the more we will understand them and normalise our sex and sensuality.

Is there still some taboo around vibrators do you think?

I think there probably is. Sex is still taboo. Female pleasure and masturbation are still quite under discussed topics. When was the last time you talked with your female friends about your orgasms or given them tips about what sex toys you’ve tried, or what techniques you use? I am on a panel called Loose Lips where we go to different towns and have a women only night to discuss our experiences. It is absolutely amazing how we can open up and talk about our sexual side when in a safe place and given permission to do so. It is one of the most rewarding things I’ve been part of. Every time we do it there will be women who start their comment, ‘I’ve never shared this before but…’ and then come out with the most beautiful story about their self-discovery.

Why do we need orgasms?

Well, I know I certainly need them! Every April I do an online celebration of the orgasm called 30 Day Orgasm Fun where I encourage people to attempt to have an orgasm a day for the whole month to help them connect with their bodies and release all that glorious oxytocin for a mental health spring boost. I suffer depression and really find that orgasm, or at the very least sensual touch, really does help lift the fog.

It helps with relationships too – I believe that giving each other orgasms really helps cut through all the daily stress that builds up between you and gets to the essence of your partnership.

Imagine if one day, everybody on the planet all came at once – the cloud of oxytocin would engulf us causing instant world peace 😀

How do we get the best out of our Ruby Glow?

My preferred method is to sit on it with my knickers on so that I can feel the fabric against it – I like to put on an erotic film from, for example, FrolicMe or Belessa, and start typing along on my keyboard. Or Skype your lover! It leaves your hands totally free to read an erotic book or scroll through some sexy images. I love it!
